Fair Day!

have i mentioned that i LOVE the Texas State Fair?! it's true. i grew up going to the fair with my family and there's nothing that beats family time, fried food, the swings and people watching. This year, everyone in my family took Friday afternoon off for our adventure.

Friday might sound familiar because it happened to be the morning that beloved Big Tex went from this to this:

I stole both of those pictures from the internet, but i wanted you to get the full picture. Around 11:30am, a fire started in Tex's mouth and he went down in flames. We didn't get to the fair ground until early afternoon, but there were already news crews and memorials for Tex at all of the Fletcher's corny dog stands. crazy. The Mayor promises and bigger and better Big Tex next year though-- can't wait for 2013!

The rest of our fair trip was a little less eventful, but still wonderful! Between 6 of us we ate a corny dog, a fried smore, friend oreo, fried snickers, crazy potatos AND fried jambalaya. I've had my fried quota for the year, but it was worth it.

We did do other stuff besides eating, however. Most of us rode the swing rides and we all rode the Ferris Wheel. We also watched the Chinese acrobats, the BMX bike show and the Amazing Doberman show. The first two would come highly recommended! The third show...wasn't exactly amazing. But we certainly got a good laugh over both the "tricks" and the trainers!
